Air Sparging Pilot Test Related Activities Report and Remedial Action Work Plan
Former Countryside Market, Stockton, California April 30, 2015
6.2.2 Air Sparge Remediation Equipment
A 5-horsepower air compressor will be connected via manifold control valves, flow meters,
pressure regulators, and conveyance piping to air sparge well heads. All construction-related work
will be completed according to acceptable practices and local building codes.
General specifications for the proposed system are as follows:
Fenced remediation compounds located on site with hazard placards and emergency
information in accordance with state and federal regulations;
Two existing and eight new AS wells;
Pressure rated hose, galvanized and/or PVC AS conveyance piping;
5-horsepower, 90 scfm, 150 psi air compressor equipped with an oil/water coalescing filter
regulated to provide 5 to 15 scfm air flows to each respective injection well;
Sparge control timers/panels;
Steel manifold, individual flow meters, pressure gauges, and pressure regulators for
individual well control;
Weather enclosure for equipment; and
Electrical service to operate the remediation equipment.
6.3 Soil Vapor Extraction Well Installation
The proposed SVE well network will consist of four SVE wells (including existing extraction well
VW-1). Wells will be placed parallel between AS wells along east to west transects that will extend
diagonally across the Site, generally perpendicular to the flow direction of groundwater. The wells
will be located approximately 30 feet apart assuming a conservative 15-foot ROI laterally. The
proposed SVE well locations are shown on Figure 5A.
Prior to drilling, the locations of all proposed SVE wells will be cleared by USA, then hand cleared
to five feet bgs using a hand auger or post hole digger. All down-hole drilling equipment will be
steam-cleaned to prevent cross-contamination from previous sampling events.
SVE wells will be constructed using 2-inch Schedule-80 PVC blank and screened (0.020-inch slot)
casing. The well screen interval for each of the SVE wells will be determined in the field; however,
SGI anticipates that one SVE well will be screened from approximately 30 to 60 feet bgs (Figure
5C), similar to existing well VW-1 and two SVE wells will be screened from approximately 60 to 80
feet bgs (Figure 5D). The extraction wells will be installed using hollow stem auger equipment.
Annular space from two feet above the screened intervals will consist of four feet of bentonite
pellets and grout to approximately 1.5 feet bgs. Surface completion for the wells will consist of a
flush-mounted, traffic-rated remediation well vault set in concrete.
6-3 The Source Group, Inc.
