Air Sparging Pilot Test Related Activities Report and Remedial Action Work Plan
Former Countryside Market, Stockton, California April 30, 2015
6.6.1 AS/SVE System Startup Activities
The AS/SVE system will be monitored in accordance with permit requirements, including regular
collection of system operating parameters during the first few days of system startup and less
frequent monitoring during subsequent system operation, again in accordance with SJV-APCD
permit requirements. During this time, the field personnel will make any necessary adjustments
and confirm that all mechanical and control equipment components are functioning properly.
During the initial operation, influent and effluent samples will be collected for analysis of VOCs to
estimate Site-specific mass removal and to confirm system operation in accordance with permit
(and discharge) requirements. In addition, one day of SVE well monitoring activities will be
conducted to evaluate the radius of vacuum influence and chemical distribution, and establish
baseline concentrations at individual vapor extraction wells.
6.7 Routine AS/SVE System Operation & Maintenance Activities
Once the AS/SVE system start up and optimization activities are completed, SGI will perform
routine system operation and maintenance (O&M), including monitoring and sampling in
accordance with the requirements specified in the SJV-APCD permit. Routine activities will consist
of system component assessments, required record keeping, and routine sample collection and
system maintenance. At a minimum, routine monitoring will be conducted by a field technician
once per month, or as needed, in accordance with an AS/SVE system O&M manual. A copy of the
O&M manual and HASP will be kept on-Site at all times during the AS/SVE system installation,
startup and operation phases of work. In general, the following tasks will be completed during
routine monitoring of the AS/SVE treatment system:
A check of all electrical motors, the vacuum blower, air compressor, VOC emission control
equipment, and associated manifold and piping. All mechanical equipment will be routinely
maintained according to the manufacturer's specifications;
Field measurements of extraction and injection system flow rates, applied vacuum and
pressure, and total VOC concentrations;
Field measurements of the amount of free water in the moisture knockout, elapsed
operation time for blower/compressor, and electrical usage;
Field measurements of VOC concentrations entering the first GAG vessel, between each
subsequent GAO vessel, and exiting the last GAO vessel, and/or other air emission
measurements as required by the SJV-APCD permit; and
Field measurements of wellhead flow-rates, applied vacuum/pressure, and total volatile
organic concentrations.
6-5 The Source Group, Inc.
