WILSON WAY STOCKTON, CA
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY OF PROPOSED SOIL REMEDIATION ACTION
On June 11, 1998, three underground storage tanks were removed from the Connell
Motors fuel dispensing site under a permit from the San Joaquin County Public Health
Services Environmental Health Division. This fuel dispensing location has been open to
the public for more than fifty years and installed new tanks in 1987. The fuel dispensing
operation was closed in March of 1998. A portion of the area between the fuel dispensers
was found to be contaminated with gasoline and diesel fuel to a maximum depth of +/-8
feet.
Connell Motors proposes to excavate the petroleum contaminated soil from the area of the
removed fuel dispensers. It is estimated that the amount of contaminated soil to be
excavated is approximately 200 cubic yards. The soil will be stockpiled on this site while
laboratory tests are being performed. After all laboratory test results are analyzed, a
determination will be made by the Engineer as to future remediation of the contaminated
soil. Soil removed from the site will be transported to a State of California certified disposal
landfill. While the contaminated soil is on this site, it will remain covered with plastic sheet.
The excavation area will be backfilled to finish grade with clean non-contaminated soil. The
area will be returned to commercial use by Connell Motor Truck Company. There are no
plans to use this site for retail sale of petroleum products at this time. The excavation will
require two days to complete and the anticipated start will occur on or about December 1,
1998. Hauling of soil will be completed by February 15,1999. All work will be completed
by March 1, 1999.
The proposed excavation and soil remediation is under the supervision of San Joaquin
County Public Heath Service, Environmental Health Division, 304 E. Weber Avenue,
Stockton, California 95201, Phone 209/468-3420. The Engineer for this project is Foothill
Engineering, 12793 Paddy Creek Lane Lodi, California 95240 Phone 209/368-9381.
