The facility uses Alodine 1200S Aero solution to coat airplane propellers <br /> by immersion in a 20 gallon container. According to the Technical Process Bulletin,this solution has a pH between <br /> 1.3-1.8 and contains chromic acid in excess of 1000 pm when prepared by diluting with water, as recommended. <br /> 6.3 pounds of powder is diluted to 100 gallons with water for immersion operations. Nitric acid is used to adjust the <br /> pH. Alodine 1200S Aero powder contains chromium(VI)oxide(50%), potassium tetrafluoroborate (25%), <br /> tripotassium hexacyanoferrate(15%), sodium fluoride(7.5%), and dipotassium hexafluorozirconate(7.5%). Mike <br /> Belmont stated that spent alodine solution is disposed of by heating and allowing the solution to evaporate from an <br /> open container within the warehouse. He stated that no residue remains in the container after evaporation. <br /> REGULATION GUIDANCE: The disposal of any hazardous waste, or the causing thereof, is prohibited when the <br /> disposal is at a facility which does not have a permit from the department issued pursuant to this chapter, or at any <br /> point which is not authorized according to this chapter. Hazardous wastes shall be disposed of only by <br /> transportation to a permitted hazardous waste treatment, storage, and disposal facility(TSDF)or other authorized <br /> point. <br /> CORRECTIVE ACTION: Immediately cease disposal of spent Alodine 1200S Aero solution by evaporation in the <br /> site warehouse.
