A list of <br />the most often used chemicals in the wastewater industry and their RQ is also included <br />in Attachment 3. <br />o Releases in an amount equal to or greater than the RQ requires immediate notification <br />to "the appropriate agency of the U.S. Government." This is typically the NRC or Coast <br />Guard. <br />• 40 CFR 302 (CERCLA) address RELEASES OF HAZARDOUS SUBSTANCES INTO THE <br />ENVIRONMENT <br />c Environment means waters of the U.S., any other surface water, ground water, drinking <br />water supply, land surface or subsurface strata, or ambient air within the U.S. <br />o A complete list of hazardous substances and their RQ under CERCLA is in Attachment 4. <br />Releases in amounts equal to or greater than the RQ must be reported by the person in charge <br />of the facility immediately to the NRC_ <br />• 40 CFR 355 (SARA) addresses RELEASES OF EXTREMEMLY HAZARDOUS SUBSTANCES AND <br />CERCLA HAZARDOUS SUBSTANCES INTO THE ENVIRONMENT <br />• Environment includes water, air and land. <br />• A complete list of extremely hazardous substances in Attachment 5. <br />• This section does not apply for releases that result in exposure to persons solely within the <br />boundaries of the facility <br />• The notification requirements of this section are in addition to the reporting requirements <br />for CERCLA chemicals in 40 CFR 302 (Paragraph C above)_ <br />Releases in amounts equal to or greater than the RQ must be immediately reported to the Local <br />Emergency Planning Committee, State Emergency Response Commission and local emergency <br />response personnel (typically Fire Dept.j This report is to include: <br />• Name/identify of substance released <br />• If it is an EHS or not <br />• Estimated quantity released <br />• Time and duration of the release <br />• Medium receiving he release <br />• Known or anticipated health risks, medical advice for exposed individuals <br />
