• Take the following measures to stop and/or contain the release: (Describe appropriate <br />measures, such as the following example.) (Reference specific SOP'S, i.e. Cl2 release) <br />Stop the container from leaking <br />Apply absorbent materials on spill <br />o If the spill is to sandy soil, shovel off the contaminated soil into a drum <br />o If the spill is to a storm drain, block off the drain before discharge to surface waters and <br />place in oil absorbent boom at the discharge to the lake. <br />• Notify the Emergency Coordinator <br />n The Emergency Coordinator will assess the possible hazards, both direct and indirect, to <br />human health or the environment, <br />o The Emergency Coordinator will immediately identify the character, exact source, <br />amount and area extent of the release. The initial identification methods will be to <br />utilize visual analysis of the material and location of the release. If for some reason the <br />release material cannot be identified, samples will be taken for chemical analysis. <br />Potential accidents fall under two general classifications; (1) fire and/or explosions, and (2) spills or <br />material releases. Natural disasters such as earthquakes or hurricanes are assumed to fall into one <br />of these two classifications. <br />FIRE AND/OR EXPLOSION <br />Describe access for firefighting in the areas affected by the fire or explosion. <br />o Hazardous work in all areas will be shut down immediately <br />o AR feed lines including power will be shut down as necessary and practical <br />o The Emergency Coordinator shall contact applicable agencies (see Table 2) <br />* The area will be cleared of all personnel not actively involved in fighting the fire. These <br />persons area to report to the designated rally points for accountability. Rally points are <br />designated on the general site plant in Attachment 1. <br />All injured persons will be removed, and medical treatment will be administered by qualified <br />personnel. <br />SPILL OR MATERIALS RELEASE <br />When contacted, the designated Emergency Coordinator will obtain information pertaining to the <br />following: <br />a. The material spilled or released <br />b. Location of the release or spillage of hazardous material <br />c. An estimate of the quantity released and the rate at which it is being released <br />d. The direction in which the spill or vapor or smoke release is heading <br />e. Any injuries involved <br />f. Fire and/or explosion or possibility of these events <br />g. The area and materiats involved and the intensity of the fire or explosion <br />
