CALIFORNIA 9D5203.2484 Housekeeping Department Q SAN-I-PAK OPERATION STEP 1 Unlock sterilizer door by turning hatch wheel to left, until the door to the unit opens. STEP 2 Place red -bagged contaminated waste into appropriate autoclave bags. Tie off bags. STEP 3 Place strips of heat -sensitive tape on different areas of the outside of each bag. STEP 4 Place the bags into the sterilizer chamber. STEP 5 Close the sterilizer door and turn hatch wheel continuously to the right until tight. Door is now secure and the unit is ready for operation. STEP 6 Proceed to the control panel on the far right of the unit. Insert the key in the top (of three) operational switch and turn to the right. This is the main power switch and, once activated, supplies power to the entire unit. The green indicator lamp is now lit. STEP 7 Once Step 6 is completed, depress the center push button which activates the sterilizer cycle. The red indicator lamp is now lit. STEP 8 Check the pressure/vacuum gauge and ensure it reads a minimum of 18 vacuum. If a minimum of 18 is not reached, notify engineering. STEP 9 Monitor the automatic time/temperature recorder ensuring it reaches 270 F for a minimum of 30 minutes. STEP 10 The unit remains operational for a thirty (30) minute cycle. At the end of the cycle the blue discharge lamp will be lit. Depress the blue discharge button and the sterilizer chamber will automatically move forward over the general waste hopper, and the sterilized waste will drop into this chamber. All remaining pressure will be released at this point, and the door will be safe to open. STEP 11 Slide open the compartment door for general waste. Examine the thermal indicator strip stamped on the bag to ensure that it has turned brown; also examine the externally applied heat -sensitive tape to ensure that it has brown and black stripes.
