Continued <br />a. Notify Environmental Services (EVS) Aide assigned to the area (Shift 1) or Nursing Staff (Shift 2 & 3) that <br />you are there to pick up isolation linen and trash from the isolation rooms. <br />b. The EVS Aide/Nursing Staff will put on protective equipment as indicated on the door sign prior to entering <br />the room. This person will be off the infectious waste and drop it into the autoclaveable liner which is held <br />open by the second EVS Aide (transport person) outside the room. <br />c. The transport person will take special precautions when double bagging. The autoclaveable liner is held <br />open at the top, making sure that the hands never touch the contaminated bag as it is dropped into the <br />second bag at the doorway (Note: Gloves are worn for added protection, but are removed and hands <br />washed if contamination is suspected. They are also removed and hands washed prior to leaving the <br />floor). <br />d. In the same manner, the soiled linen is dropped into a second yellow liner at the doorway. <br />e. The transport person then will put bags into the cart. <br />f. The person in the room will replace liners (supplied by the transport person) into the receptacles, remove <br />gloves, wash hands and then remove the remainder of the protective equipment (gowns and then mask, <br />if worn). <br />6. Take cart down to basement and outside to the infectious waste holding area. Transfer infectious soiled linen <br />into the cart provided in the holding room. Transfer the infectious waste into the two gray infectious waste carts <br />provided, which are in the outside secured infectious waste holding room, where they will be prepared for the <br />sterilizer. <br />7. Wash cart with germicidal detergent solution. <br />8. Remove and dispose of gown. <br />9. Wash hands. <br />
