No. 2-1-124m) <br />(e) Infectious wastes consisting of recognizable human anatomical remains <br />shall not be disposed of by burial at a landfill disposal facility, but shall be <br />disposed of by incineration or interment, unless burial at a Gass I landfill is <br />specifically approved by the Department because the waste contains a hazard- <br />ous chemical. Infectious human fetal remains shall be disposed of by incinera- <br />tion or interment. <br />NOTE: Authority cited: Sections 808, 25150 and 25157.3, Health and Safety Code. Amendment of subsection (a) filed 10-16-84; effective thirtieth day thereafter (Reg- <br />ister 84, No. 41) . <br />. Transfer of Infectious Waste to Off -Site Treatment and Disposal Facili- <br />ties. <br />(a) Anyproducer of more than 100 kilograms of infectious waste per month <br />shall transfer custody of the waste only to a auler who is registered as a <br />hawdous waste hauler by the Department. A person is exempt from the <br />requirements for registration of haulers of hazardous waste in order to haul a <br />quantity of not greater than 100 kilograms of infectious waste during any one <br />month,/ <br />(b) 'infectious waste shall be tr rted to an off-site treatment or disposal <br />facility in a leakproof, fully enol container or vehicle'compartment. <br />(c) A quantity of more than 100 kilograms of infectious waste shall not be <br />transported in the same vehicle with other waste unless the infectious waste is <br />separately contained in rigid reusable containers or kept separate by barriers <br />from .other waste, or unless all of the waste is to be treated or disposed of as <br />infectious waste in accordance with the requirements of this article. <br />(d) infectious waste shall not be unloaded and reloaded or transferred to <br />another vehicle or stored for more than 96 hours at any off-site location or <br />facility, except at a hazardous waste transfer station or other facility for which <br />there is a valid and appropriate Hazardous Waste Facility Permit. At such a <br />facility, the infectious waste shall be kept in a secured area separate from other <br />wastes. <br />(e) Infectious waste shall be delivered for treatment or disposal only to a <br />facility for which there is a valid and appropriate Hazardous 'Vaste Facility <br />Permit or to a treatment or disposal facility specified in Section 66855 of this <br />Article that does not require a Hazardous Waste Facility Permit for treatment <br />or disposal of infectious waste. <br />(f) Persons manually loading or unloading containers of infectious waste on <br />or from transport vehicles shall be provided by their employer with, and re- <br />quired to wear, clean, protective gloves and coveralls. Other protective cloth- <br />ing, face shields and respirators may be required as deemed necessary by the <br />Department. <br />(g) Surfaces of transport vehicles that have contacted spilled or leaked infec- <br />tious waste shall be decontaminated by procedures as described in Section <br />(k) of this article. <br />(h) Vehicles trsporting more than 100 kilograms of infectious waste shall <br />be identified on each side of the vehicle with the name or trademark of the <br />hauler and with conspicuously displayed rectangular signs or decals 25 by 35 <br />,centimeters in size with red labeling on a white background with the words <br />Infectious Waste or with the international biohazard symbol and the word <br />"Biohazard". Such identifying labeling shall be readily legible during daylight <br />from a distance of 50 feet. <br />NOTE: Authority cited: Sections 208, 25150 and 23157.3, Health and Safety Code.
