J. H. KLEINFELDER & ASSOCIATES File No. 5-2282-1
February 9, 1978
PAGE SIX
It is recommended that all footing excavations on this project
be observed by a representative of J. H. Kleinfelder & Associates
prior to placing of concrete in these excavations .
Floor Slabs
It is our opinion that floor slabs or exterior concrete slabs
should be underlain by a minimum of 6 inches of recompacted native
soil or Engineered Fill. The recommended degree of compaction is
90 percent of the maximum dry density as obtained by the ASTM
D-1557-70 test procedure. In addition, we recommend that slab-
on-grade floors be underlain by a minimum 4-inch thick layer of _
free-draining gravel or clean coarse sand to act as a capillary
moisture break. The gravel should be covered by a moistureproofing
membrane such as "Moiststop" or visqueen in order to act as a
vapor barrier. The membrane should then be covered with 1 to
2 inches of clean moist 'sand to protect the membrane during
construction.
ADDITIONAL SERVICES
This report completes our present scope of work on this
project.
