I. H. KLIINFHDER x- Atiti(X IAII File No . 5-2008-1
December 21, 1972
PAGE THREE
FIELD EXPLORATIONS
The field explorations for this portion of the project
were performed on December 6, 7, and 18 , 1972 . Five shallow
percolation borings were drilled at the locations shown on
Plate I , Plot Plan . In addition, a deep boring was
drilled just off the access road on the west side of the site
to evaluate the groundwater conditions .
The shallow borings were drilled to an approximate 5-foot
depth using hand-auger type equipment . Percolation tests were
performed in these holes . The sixth boring was drilled with
truck-mounted flight auger-type drilling equipment and was
extended to the depth of the groundwater table . A continuous
log of the soils encountered in these borings was maintained .
Both disturbed and undisturbed samples were collected for
classification purposes .
In general, the surface soil encountered at the points
explored consists of a dark-brown to black plastic clay which
is soft to medium-stiff . The upper 1 to 1-1/2 feet of this
soil is very soft and had been disced or plowed prior to our
investigation. This soil grades at an approximate 3-1/2 to
4-foot depth to a brown clayey and sandy silt (hardpan) which
is partially cemented .
The soil profile encountered in the deep boring consists
of interbedded layers or lenses of clayey and sandy silt and
silty sands to the maximum depth explored .
