SECTION B - CURB AND GUTTER (Con't) <br /> 4. GRADING <br /> The native earth under the curb and gutter section shall be rough <br /> graded and then carefully finished graded after full compaction <br /> to the neat section and grade as shown on the plans, to produce a <br /> subgrade for the placing of the cushion material. <br /> 5. PLACING CUSHION MATERIAL <br /> A cushion of the compacted thickness as shown on the plans shall <br /> be placed on the subgrade and fully compacted by watering and <br /> tamping or rolling. <br /> 6. SETTING FORMS <br /> The forms shall be set true to line and grade and shall be held <br /> rigidly and securely in place by means of stakes set in the outside <br /> of the flush with the top of the forms. The forms shall be kept in <br /> true alignment and to proper grade during all concrete placing. <br /> 7. PLACING EXPANSION JOINTS <br /> Expansion joints shall be placed at the beginning, end and quarter <br /> points of all round corners. On straight sections, expansion joints <br /> may be placed at maximum of 200 feet when the temperature is below <br /> 80 degrees F. The maximum distance between expansion joints may be <br /> decreased by the Engineer. Expansion joints shall be placed at the <br /> end of each pour where a cold joint is to be made. <br /> 8. PLACING DOWEL BARS <br /> The dowels shall be placed as shown on the plans. The bars shall be <br /> heavily greased and wrapped with paper to precent adhearing to the <br /> concrete. The bars shall be held in a parallel position with each other <br /> by a suitable means, as approved by the Engineer. <br /> 9.
