<br /> <br />SP 38 <br /> <br />4. Conductors and Splices: <br />a. Deliver to the site in unbroken packages, plainly marked with the <br />manufacturer’s name, date of manufacture (not more than six <br />months old), voltage, size, and classification number printed <br />clearly every 12‐inches. <br />b. Insulated Class B stranded copper type THHN/THWN and Direct <br />Burial rated low voltage com wire; all 90‐degree C, 600 Volts. <br />c. Minimum size of all conductors shall be #12 AWG unless <br />otherwise indicated on the drawings. <br />d. Conductors shall be as manufactured by Anaconda, General <br />Electric, Rome Cable, Belden, Alpha Co., or equal. <br />e. Neutral conductors for feeders and branch circuits shall be white <br />and of the same size as the line conductors. <br />f. Splices of #10 AWG and smaller, including fixture tape, shall be <br />made with 3M Scotchlok connectors, T&B “Piggys”, Ideal <br />Wingnuts, or equal. <br />g. Splices of #8 AWG through #4 AWG shall be copper split bolt <br />service connectors by Anderson, Blackburn, Burndy, or Panduit, <br />insulated with Scotch #88 tape over Scotchfil electrical insulation <br />putty. <br />h. Splices of #2 AWG and larger shall be O‐Z XW Series insulated with <br />Scotch #88 tape over Scotchfil electrical insulation putty. <br />i. If allowed, splices in underground pull boxes shall be Scotchcast <br />cast resin used with devices listed for intended use. <br />j. Wire splicing devices shall be sized in accordance with the <br />manufacturer’s recommendations. <br />k. Typically, conductors shall be run in one continuous length. <br />l. Conductors in panels, motor control centers, etc., shall be laced <br />with T&B Ty‐raps. <br />m. Self‐lubricant wire is desirable. If lubricant is needed, use <br />powdered soapstone, Y‐er EAS, Minerallac “Pull‐In” compound, or <br />other U.L. approved lubricant. Flax soap is not approved and not <br />permitted on the job. <br />n. Non‐ferrous identifying tags or pressure sensitive labels shall be <br />securely fastened to all cables, feeders, and power circuits in pull <br />boxes and manholes. Tags or labels shall be permanently <br />stamped or printed to correspond with markings on drawings or <br />marked so that feeder or cable may be readily identified. Must be <br />viewable from 12‐inches.
