• Quality Assurance
LS-7 Field Testing: Field testing to be conducted in accordance with
ASTM Designation: D 1556, "Standard Test Method for Density of
Soil In Place by the Sand Cone Method". The maximum dry density
for the subgrade soils shall be corrected in accordance with
AASHTO Designation: 224. "Standard Method of Correction for
Coarse Particles in Soil Compaction Test" to establish target
values for each compaction test. Said testing to be provided by
the seepage inhibitor manufacturer.
Performance Testing
LS-8 Samples of the completed soil liner material will be taken by the
seepage inhibitor manufacturer. These specimens will be tested
to determine their permeability coefficient.
Workmanship
LS-9 General: The procedure for constructing the low permeability
soil membrane is to place the liner in layers of six inches each.
For this purpose, the lake shall be isolated into convenient
sections for mixing, spreading, and compacting the layers of low
permeability membrane.
Note: In some cases, due to nature of soil, compacted area shall
be flooded with water treated with seepage inhibitor. The need
for treated water flooding to be determined by supplier of sealant
materials. See section on flooding, page LS-4.
LS-10 Membrane Formation: The formation of sealant membrane maybe
accomplished by the following procedures
1. Where in place soil is specified "select soil", the lake
bottom shall be over excavated by the specified lining
thickness less six (6) inches. The lower six-inch
compacted layer of the membrane shall be obtained by
discing the subgrade and applying water and emulsion
mixture and compacting as described herein under
MIXING, SPREADING AND COMPACTION. All grades to
be maintained plus or minus one tenth of a foot.
2. After the first layer is installed, compacted and finished,
install the successive layer"s" in the same procedure as
the first layer.
LS- 2
