3. All plumbing penetrations into the containment will
incorporate the use of 90 degrees baffles to prevent
water transmission along the outside of the pipe.
LS-1 1 Mixing: Each six-inch layer of compacted thickness shall be
I mechanically mixed while incorporating the required amounts of
water, soil stabilizer and seepage inhibitor. The desired goal is a
ONwell mixed, uniform soil, water and emulsion mixture. The water
and emulsion shall be applied by volumetrically controlled
methods that will supply the correct quantity to produce a
completed soil mixture. The quantities of soil stabilizer and
seepage inhibitor to be used are to be recommended by the
material manufacturer. The mixing should be accomplished by
discing with an offset type disc sufficiently weighted to produce
full mixing to a depth of six inches, or other mixing approved
methods. Multiple passes in a criss-cross pattern will be
required to incorporate the water, emulsions and soil into a
uniform mixture.
LS- 12 Spreading: Each successive membrane layer shall be spread on
the subgrade of previous layer to the required thickness.
Immediately prior to spreading the treated material, the subgrade
or previous layer shall be moistened and kept moist but not
excessively wet. Equipment for spreading the membrane shall be
operated in such a manner as to produce a smooth uniform
surface.
LS- 13 Compaction: Each six-inch layer shall be compacted to at least
97F at plus or minus 29 of optimum moisture as determined by
ASTM Method D-698A. The surface shall then be smoothed, and
final compaction reached with a rubber tire or smooth steel
wheeled vibratory roller. Final grade to be plus or minus one-
tenth of a foot. Hand compaction will be necessary around all
structures (i.e., pipes, pads, etc).
1. The membrane shall be kept moist with seepage
inhibitor solution until membrane is flooded or covered
with a protective layer of soil.
2. Membrane shall be kept moist until containment is filled
LS- 3
