05110 Structural & Miscellaneous Metals <br /> Construction Documents. The following shall not be painted or galvanized under any <br /> conditions: <br /> 1. Steel to be fireproofed. <br /> 2. Mating surfaces of high-strength bolted connections. <br /> 3. Connections requiring field welding. <br /> 4. Surfaces to receive welded metal decking. <br /> 5. Portions of members requiring encasement in concrete. <br /> 3.04 ERECTION <br /> A. Field connections: Workmanship of field bolted and welded connections shall conform in <br /> all respects to methods and tolerances specified for fabrication. <br /> B. Templates: Bolt setting templates shall be furnished for all anchor bolts. The Contractor <br /> shall furnish instructions for the setting of anchors and bearing plates and shall ascertain <br /> that the items are properly set during the progress of the Work. <br /> C. Column base plates shall be set level to correction elevations and temporarily supported <br /> on steel wedges, shims, or leveling nuts as shown until the supported members have been <br /> plumbed and grouted. The entire bearing area under plates shall be grouted solid. See <br /> Section 03300, Cast-In-Place Concrete. <br /> D. Installation of bolts: <br /> 1. Standard machine bolts (A307) shall be installed in matching holes. Machine bolts <br /> (MB) shall not be installed with damaged threads and shall be tightened to a snug <br /> condition using an impact wrench. <br /> E. Framing and Bracing: <br /> 1. All structural steel shall be erected true and plumb. Temporary shoring and bracing <br /> shall be used wherever necessary and shall be adequate for all loads to which it may <br /> be subjected. Leave temporary bracing and shoring in place as long as may be <br /> required for safety, and until final framing construction is completed. <br /> 2. Wherever piles of materials, erection equipment or other loads are carried by the steel <br /> during its erection and until it is braced by final construction, proper provision by the <br /> Contractor shall be made to take care of the stresses resulting from such construction <br /> on or attached to the steel work until it has been completely erected and with all final <br /> connections completed. <br /> 3. No final connections shall be made until the structure has been properly aligned. <br /> 4. All temporary flooring, planking and scaffolding necessary in connection with the <br /> erection of the structural steel, or the support of erection machinery shall be provided <br /> as part of the erection work. The temporary floors and scaffolding shall conform to <br /> the requirements of all laws governing safety regulations. <br /> 5. Drifting done during assembly shall not distort the metal or enlarge the holes. <br /> Mismatching of holes greater than 3/32-inch shall require reaming for the next larger <br /> bolt.
