PROSTHETIC DEVICES: Prisoners shall be allowed to <br /> retain necessary orthopedic and prosthetic appliances <br /> while in custody if such devices are deemed necessary <br /> for the immediate health and well being of the <br /> arrestee, unless they would pose an immediate threat to <br /> security. The Watch Commander will determine if such a <br /> threat exists . All such devices shall be subject to <br /> searches for contraband. <br /> 1 . Prisoners will not be allowed to keep crutches <br /> while they are confined in a cell . When moving a <br /> prisoner from one destination to another, such <br /> person will be provided with their crutches until <br /> they reach their destination, at which time the <br /> officer/jailer will take the crutches from them. <br /> Crutches will be appropriately tagged and stored in <br /> the property area. <br /> 2 . Stretch bandages (Ace bandages) are not a <br /> prosthetic device and will not be allowed into a <br /> cell . These bandages are a possible suicide tool <br /> and pose a security hazard. <br /> L. EYE GLASSES: Inmates shall be allowed to retain eye <br /> glasses while in custody unless they pose a threat to <br /> the safety of the inmate or jail security. <br /> M. VERMIN CONTROL: When an inmate shows signs of, or <br /> states that he/she has lice, fleas, ticks or other <br /> vermin on his/her body, he/she will be transported to <br /> San Joaquin County Jail where medical staff and <br /> treatment is available. The inmate will be isolated <br /> from other inmates until such time as he/she can be <br /> transported or is no longer contagious. <br /> 1 . Medications and instructions for handling the <br /> inmate and his clothing will be provided by the <br /> hospital . <br /> 2 . After the inmate is cleared for incarceration, he <br /> will be housed separately from other inmates . <br /> 3 . Jailers may elect to use prophylactic sprays on <br /> environmental surfaces such as mattresses, bunks <br /> and blankets . <br /> N.
