SHIPPING: <br />*Cadaveric specimens that exceed the above stated time <br />Limits will not be used, and will be considered biohazardous waste and <br />disposed of accordingly. <br />Surgical Instruments will be cleaned of all bio -burden prior to terminal <br />sterilization by means of a high temp dishwasher with cleaning <br />solutions. <br />(*Cadaveric Specimens- classified as tissue and pathological Waste, <br />NOT full cadaver) <br />Biohazardous Waste <br />Waste must be segregated at the point of origin and placed inside <br />designated Biohazardous waste bags and into containers with tight <br />fitting lids. If pickup of material is not immediate (within 48 hrs) all <br />waste will be stored in a lockable freezer at 0 degree Celsius inside <br />appropriate waste bags until the designated waste hauler arrives. All <br />waste shall be "RED" bagged. All waste will be scheduled for pick-up <br />within 7 days of generation. (See Exclusion for Sharps) <br />Please note all waste will be stored in a freezer at 0 degree Celsius for <br />scheduled pickup within 7 days of generation. <br />Contaminated Linen <br />All linen towels are washed on-site with bleach following each lab <br />scheduled on a hot cycle. Mop heads are changed out on a regular <br />basis. <br />Biohazardous Waste (SHARPS) <br />Sharps must be segregated at the point of origin and placed inside <br />designated; puncture resistant biohazardous waste sharps containers. <br />Sharps Exception: Accumulation of sharps must not exceed 1 month <br />for an individual container that is less than 20 lbs in weight per month. <br />If a sharps container is full it may be stored in a locking freezer at 0 <br />degree Celsius for up to 90. <br />Sharps containers shall be labeled with the facility name. Upon <br />disposal, all containers shall be sealed with tape and all lids or locks <br />secured prior to the waste hauler removing them from the premises. <br />Pathological Waste ( Used Cadaveric Specimens) <br />Waste must be placed inside "RED" biohazardous waste bags and <br />frozen one specimen per bag. <br />Storage of Pathological waste must not exceed 7 days unless stored at <br />or below 0 degrees Celsius. <br />The shipping of Biohazardous materials, by any Pacific <br />Medical personnel, is strictly prohibited. <br />
