LODI MEMORIAL HOSP festive: 7/16/85 <br />INFECTION CONTROL <br />"INFECTIOUS WASTE" DISPOSAL <br />DEFINITION: <br />I. "Infectious Waste" means <br />A. <br />Laboratory wastes. <br />B. <br />Pathologic specimens. <br />C. <br />Surgical specimens. <br />D. <br />Equipment, Instruments, utensils and other disposable materials. <br />1. Needles/Syringes and sharps. <br />' <br />2. Blood stained materials. <br />3. Hemovac containers. <br />4. Dressings. <br />5. Pleurivacs. <br />6. Suction bottles and tubing. <br />7. Respirator and IPPB tubing. <br />8. All IV lines arterial lines, i.e., swans ganz temporary <br />Pacemaker lines etc. <br />9. All trash from Surgical Suites, Labor & Delivery Rooms, <br />Rooms. <br />pJ. <br />tER <br />t1 <br />"Isolation <br />E. <br />Wastes . <br />PURPOSE: To <br />separate infectious waste at the "point of origin" that it may be <br />properly disposed of in "Infectiouse Waste" area outside the hospital. <br />PROCEDURE: <br />I. Housekeeping <br />A. <br />Will pick up "infectious trash" and regular trash two (2) times <br />a day. <br />B. <br />Will line all "infectious waste" receptacles with a red bag. <br />C. <br />Will "double bag" all infectious waste with red bags to be taken. <br />for disposal. The bags will be securely tied. <br />D. <br />Take trash to outside area and dispose of all regular trash in <br />trash compactor. <br />E. <br />Will dispose of all infectious trash inside lock fence labeled <br />"Infectious Waste". <br />1. If "Infectious bag" leaks or breaks on cart all trash is <br />considered infectious and will be disposed of in the <br />"infectious waste" receptacles. <br />
