Am V <br /> SUBJECT: ENVIRONMENT OF CARE- Emergency Operations Plan PAGE 12 OF 14 <br /> VII. ORIENTATION AND EDUCATION CESS: <br /> A. Staff who fill Command staff roles (Administrative positions, Department <br /> Directors, Nursing Supervisors) will be trained in the HICS process and <br /> participate in hospital drills. Additional training will be provided as needed as <br /> identified through disaster drills and actual incidents. <br /> B. An education module will be completed by all new hires at the time of <br /> employment and again with annual training. The module shall consist of: <br /> 1. Specific roles and responsibilities during emergencies <br /> 2. How to recognize an actual or potential emergency situation and make <br /> proper notifications. <br /> 3. Information and skills for duties during emergencies <br /> 4. Backup communication systems during disasters and emergencies <br /> 5. Obtaining supplies and equipment during disasters <br /> C. Employees are responsible for reading the Emergency Operations Plan (EOP) <br /> as it is updated. Point of time training takes place during disaster drills and as <br /> needed. <br /> D. Internal life safety drills, involving only DHM, will be developed by the safety <br /> officer. These drills will be conducted monthly with varied times of the day to <br /> help all shifts practice the Emergency Operations Plan. External disaster <br /> drills, which include cooperation and communication with the Disaster Control <br /> Facility (DCF), will be held at least twice a year. Drills will plan to incorporate <br /> a variety of conditions, including incidences when the healthcare organization <br /> and the community infrastructures are either intact or compromised. All drills <br /> provided by the Emergency Management Task Force will include involved <br /> employees input and evaluation. The Emergency Management Task Force <br /> chairperson will gather this data and report her/his findings with a <br /> recommendation back to the Environment of Care Committee. <br /> E. Disaster education is disseminated through the Environment of Care <br /> Committee. <br /> F. License independent practitioners affiliated with the hospital will receive an <br /> initial letter detailing the employee updated notifications that will be sent as <br /> needed. <br /> VIII. INFORMATION COLLECTION AND EVALUATION (ICES): <br /> A. The Command, General Staff, assigned Chiefs (Department Directors or Shift <br /> Managers), Disaster Drill Coordinator, and those employees directly involved <br /> with the incident, will complete at the end of each disaster drill, an Emergency <br /> Operations Plan Critique, when requested, and turn it into the Emergency <br /> Management Task Force.
