red bag shall be tied with a single knot or "gooseneck" knot and have sufficient strength to <br />preclude ripping, tearing, or bursting under normal condition of usage and handling of the <br />waste -filled bag. The bag shall be constructed of material of sufficient single thickness strength <br />and shall be marked and certified by the manufacturer as having passed the tests prescribed for <br />tear resistance in the American Society for Testing Materials (ASTM) D1922, "Standard Test <br />Method for Propagation Tear Resistance of Plastic Film and Thin Sheeting by Pendulum <br />Method" and for impact resistance in ASTM D1709, "Standard Test Methods for Impact <br />Resistance of Plastic Film by the Free -Falling Dart Method,". <br />d. All pharmaceutical waste shall be segregated at the point of origin and coflected in the <br />appropriate container. Containers shall be leak resistant, have tight -fitting and secured covers. <br />The containers must be marked with "INCINERATION ONLY." <br />e. Trace Antineoplastic (Chemotherapy) waste shall be collected in either yellow sharps containers <br />or yellow bags/containers marked "CHEMOTHERAPY WASTE INCINERATION ONLY" and <br />have the biohazard symbol. Trace Antineoplastic (Chemotherapy) waste will not be mixed with <br />other waste, nor will other waste be place into the containers for trace antineoplastic <br />(chemotherapy) waste. Linens contaminated with chemotherapeutic drugs or blood or body <br />fluids should be considered trace antineoplastic (chemotherapy). waste and placed into the <br />appropriate antineoplastic (chemotherapy) waste container for disposal. <br />f. Bulk antineoplastic {chemotherapy} waste should be placed in the black RCRA containers <br />located in designated areas and labeled. The lid to the container should be kept closed except <br />when placing an item into the container. Listen for the clicks that indicate, it is locked. <br />g. Pathology waste shall be disposed of on a special basis in red biohazardous waste bag and <br />placed into a container labeled "PATHOLOGY WASTE — INCINERATION ONLY." Contact the <br />Safety Department if you have pathology waste for disposal. <br />2. Labeling: <br />a. All bulk biohazardous waste containers shall be labeled "Biohazardous Waste" or with the <br />biohazardous symbol and the word "BIOHAZARD" on the lid and on the sides so as to be visible <br />from any lateral direction. Round cans should have 3 bio -waste labels on the sides and on the <br />top and square cans should have one on all four sides and the top. <br />b. Sharps containers shall be labeled with the international biohazard symbol and the word <br />"BIOHAZARD". <br />c. Pharmacy waste will be labeled 'INCINERATION ONLY". <br />d. Trace chemotherapy waste shall be labeled "CHEMOTHERAPY WASTE — INCINERATION <br />ONLY." <br />e. Pathological waste shall be labeled "PATHOLOGY WASTE -INCINERATION ONLY". <br />3, Collection/Transportation: <br />a. All personnel who handle and/or transport medical waste will wear the appropriate PPE. <br />b. All medical wastes shall be transported to the biohazardous waste storage area using <br />appropriate PPE. <br />c.
