d. Carrying biohazardous waste by hand in red bags to the blohazardous waste storage area is <br />prohibited. it must be transported in a rigid approved container with a lid. Prior to placing the red <br />bag into the waste transport container, make sure the bag is gooseneck or single -knot tied <br />tightly to prevent potential leaks. <br />e. Collection of medical waste from the exam rooms shall take place at least once every week. <br />f. The integrity of biohazardous waste containers will be checked by trained staff. If a <br />biohazardous waste container is found with compromised integrity (i.e.-cracked or broken), the <br />container should be removed and disposed of properly. <br />g. Biohazardous waste (red bags) shall be collected when 3/4 full or when the odor dictates and <br />will be disposed of in the biohazardous waste storage area. <br />h. Sharps waste (sharps containers) shall be collected when containers are 2/3 full, removed from <br />use and will be disposed of in the biohazardous waste storage area. <br />1. DEA pharmaceutical waste (controlled substance) shall be sent to a state approved reverse <br />distributor for disposal as defined in the Controlled Substance Purchasing, Handling and <br />Reporting Theft Policy (PolicyStat ID 5550734). <br />4.
