3. Engineering Review of Tanks & Equipment Covered by CalARP Program
C:\TRICH\Jobs\4515582 Leprino Tracy\Report\Leprino Tracy CalARP 040221.docx 3-7
embedment. The result of our anchorage analysis is a maximum DCR ratio of 0.82
indicating that the existing anchorage is adequate. This result is based on ¾-inch
diameter anchors to be conservative. What appears to be an ammonia leak detector
was found, along with level detection and shutdown.
The Ammonia High Pressure Receiver tank (HPR-1) (Figure 3-45) is anchored to the
foundation with eight ¾-inch to 1-inch diameter bolts (Figure 3-46). Based on
information provided by Leprino Foods, the tank is approximately 15 percent full of liquid
ammonia. Based on available foundation drawings, the anchors are 1-inch diameter
A307 anchors with 12-inch embedment. The result of our anchorage analysis is a
maximum DCR ratio of 1.03 indicating a slight overstress in the existing anchorage. The
overstress is negligible and deemed acceptable.
The ammonia Intercooler IC-1 (Figure 3-47) has an ID plate noting a manufacture date
of 1999 and is the only piece of equipment in the Intercooler Yard outside the Main
Engine Room where a manufacture or installation date was found. Other equipment in
this area was not dated, but appeared to be of approximately the same age. This would
indicate the equipment in the Intercooler Yard was permitted under the 1997 UBC, and
therefore adequate unless anchorage has been removed. Anchorage for the tank was
not visible due to insulation, but available drawings indicate four 1-inch diameter A307
bolts with 12-inch embedment. The result of our anchorage analysis is a maximum DCR
ratio of 1.05 indicating a slight overstress in the existing anchorage. The overstress is
negligible and deemed acceptable.
The Ice Builder (IB-1) does not appear to be anchored, but is so large that anchorage
may be internal (Figures 3-48 and 3-49). Three pumps and their motors at the west end
of this unit (Figure 3-50) are well anchored and if IB-1 is not well anchored, the
connections between IB-1 and the pumps may rupture. If IB-1 was permitted under the
1997 or later CBC, then it is likely to be anchored. There is no indication anchorage has
been removed. Three vessels on top of IB-1 (FFC-1, AV-304 and AV-305) appear to be
well anchored to the unit. It is recommended that anchorage be verified for IB-1. If
anchorage is not provided, it is recommended that anchorage be provided at the visible
steel skid.
