3. Engineering Review of Tanks & Equipment Covered by CalARP Program
C:\TRICH\Jobs\4515582 Leprino Tracy\Report\Leprino Tracy CalARP 040221.docx 3-8
3.2.3 Other Equipment
Manufacturing Area
The Pump Recirculating Unit (PRU-2) is a vertical tank in the manufacturing area (Figure
3-51). Based on information provided by Leprino Foods, the tank is approximately
one-third full of liquid ammonia. It is supported by four steel pipe legs that are anchored
to the foundation with four 5/8-inch diameter anchors per leg (Figure 3-52). It is
unknown what type of anchors are used and how much embedment is provided. The
result of our anchorage analysis is a maximum DCR ratio of 1.51 indicating a deficiency
in the existing anchorage. This result is based on 5/8-inch diameter post installed
expansion anchors with an embedment of four inches. If actual as-built conditions of the
anchorage are different than our assumptions, the result may vary. It is recommended
that additional analysis be performed and additional anchors be provided as necessary.
A level detector shuts the tank down at 65% of full height.
Freezer
Evaporative coils EV-1 through EV-4 (Figure 3-53) are located in penthouses above the
freezer expansion area. The units are supported by ten steel channel columns that are
bolted to the units and welded to the steel support framing below (Figure 3-54). The
result of our anchorage analysis is a maximum DCR ratio of 0.02 for the connections
between the legs and the units and steel support framing. A part of each unit hangs
below the steel framing inside the expansion freezer (Figure 3-55). There is no visible
bracing of the hanging portion of each unit. Excessive sway may damage the
connecting ducts between the unit components. It is recommended that transverse and
longitudinal bracing be provided for the hanging portion of each unit.
Evaporative coils EV-5 through EV-8 (Figure 3-56) are suspended from the roof of the
freezer area and accessed by a suspended catwalk. Each unit has eight hangers, four
at the top four corners and four supporting two trapezes at the bottom of the unit
(Figure 3-57). The top four corners are located less than 12 inches below the support
framing and should prevent excessive sway. It is recommended that additional analysis
be performed to confirm the adequacy of the existing support.
Truck Vestibule
Evaporative coils EV-10 (Figures 3-58 and 3-59), EV-11 (Figures 3-60 and 3-61) and
EV-12 (Figures 3-62 and 3-63) are suspended from the roof framing of the truck
