The geosynthetic clay liner shall not be installed on an excessively moist subgrade or on standing water. The geosynthetic clay liner shall be installed in a way that prevents hydration prior to completion of construction of the liner system. <br /> F. The geosynthetic clay liner shall not be installed during precipitation or other conditions that may cause hydration of the geosynthetic clay liner. <br /> G. The geosynthetic clay liner shall be installed as shown on the Construction Drawings, or as otherwise indicated by the Manufacturer, if approved by the QA/QC CONSULTANT. <br /> H. Geomembrane installation shall immediately follow the geosynthetic clay liner installation. All geosynthetic clay liner that is placed during a day's work shall be covered with geomembrane before the GEOSYNTHETICS CONTRACTOR leaves the site at the end of the day. <br /> I. Geomembrane shall not be placed on a geosynthetic clay liner that is hydrated. <br /> J. All geomembrane seams shall be welded after each geomembrane panel is placed over the geosynthetic clay liner. Heat sealing of seams for geomembrane placed over GCL alone is not acceptable. <br /> K. All geomembrane defects and destructive sample locations shall be immediately repaired. <br /> L. Operations layer soil overlying the liner system components shall immediately follow the installation of the geomembrane and other geosynthetics overlying the geosynthetic clay liner. If areas cannot be covered immediately due to steepness of slopes, visqueen shall be placed over geosynthetic components overlying the geosynthetic clay liner. The geosynthetic clay liner shall be removed and replaced if it becomes hydrated. <br /> M. All hydrated geosynthetic clay liner shall be removed and replaced by the GEOSYNTHETICS CONTRACTOR at no additional cost to the OWNER. Hydrated GCL is defined as material that has become soft as determined by squeezing the material with finger pressure, material that has exhibited swelling, or material that has a moisture content greater than 100 percent as determined by ASTM D2216 or ASTM D4643. Cause for replacement of the GCL due to exposure to moisture and subsequent hydration shall be determined at the QA/QC CONSULTANT’s sole discretion.
