The CONTRACTOR is advised that the construction of this project will require working in, on, and adjacent to refuse. Landfill gas (LFG) is generated from decomposing refuse. This LFG normally consists of about 45 percent carbon dioxide (CO2), 55 percent methane (CH4) and other gases, depending on the composition of the refuse. Hydrogen sulfide (H2S) or other toxic gases have been occasionally encountered at landfills. B. Active Waste Management Units at the Forward Landfill were permitted for the disposal of "nonhazardous solid waste." Notwithstanding the above, the OWNER cannot guarantee that toxic or hazardous materials or vapors will not be encountered by the CONTRACTOR during the performance of this project. 1.7 TIME OF COMPLETION AND LIQUIDATED DAMAGES A. The CONTRACTOR shall agree to pay liquidated damages as specified in the Agreement Conditions. B. The CONTRACTOR shall commence and complete Work under this Contract within the time period stated in the Agreement. 1.8 CODES AND STANDARDS A. All Work done and materials and equipment transported, handled, stored or installed shall be done in strict conformance with the applicable orders, rules and regulations of the State of California, Division of Industrial Safety, and with all other State, County, City, or District requirements. Nothing contained in these Specifications or shown or noted on the Construction Drawings shall be construed to permit Work not conforming to these orders, rules and regulations. B. When Construction Drawings or Specifications call for material or construction of a better quality or larger size than may be required by applicable codes or standards, the provisions of the Construction Drawings and/or Specifications shall take precedence over the requirements of the code or standard. If there is any other conflict between the Construction Drawings or Specifications and the requirements of applicable codes and standards, the more stringent provisions shall govern. 1.9 MANUFACTURERS' SPECIFICATIONS AND INSTRUCTIONS A. Unless otherwise indicated or specified, all manufactured materials, products, processes, equipment, or the like shall be installed or applied in accordance with the manufacturers' instructions, directions, or Specifications. Said installation or application shall be in accordance with printed instructions furnished by the manufacturer of the material or equipment concerned for use under conditions similar to those at the jobsite. Copies of such instructions shall be furnished to the DESIGN ENGINEER and his acceptance thereof obtained before Work is begun. B. Unless otherwise indicated or specified, any deviation from the manufacturers' printed recommendations shall be explained and acknowledged as correct for the
