San Joaquin County <br />Department of Public Works <br />County of San Joaquin Dept of Public Works IIPP Rev 2020-01-31.docx P a g e | 9 <br />1.5 Polices <br /> <br />It is the policy of the County of San Joaquin Department of Public Works to provide <br />a safe and healthy work environment and make every effort to protect its <br />employees and the public from risks resulting from its operations. The Department <br />of Public Works shall institute specific safety and health policies, procedures and <br />work guidelines that achieve the following goals: <br /> Place employee safety and health as a primary consideration in establishing <br />work practices and procedures and in the selection of equipment <br /> Give Safety and Health precedence over expediency and short cuts <br /> Make every effort to minimize accidents <br /> Comply with and enforce all safety rules and regulations and County safety and <br />health policies <br /> <br />1.5.1 Compliance with Safety and Health Work Practices: <br /> <br /> The Department will communicate to Public Works employees to help them <br />understand the importance of compliance with <br />o The Department’s IIPP <br />o Other health and safety programs of the Department <br />o Other policies and procedures that are a mandatory condition of <br />employment <br /> Overall performance in the maintenance of a safe and healthy work environment <br />and its impact on safety <br /> <br />1.5.2 Effective Communication with Employees <br /> <br /> Supervisors and Managers are responsible for communicating with all employees <br />about safety and health issues in a form readily understandable by all employees <br /> Cal/OSHA required postings can be found on bu lletin boards in each office of the <br />department <br /> The Department Safety Committee may also be a means to communicate to <br />employees in matters of safety and health, issues found and corrective actions <br />taken <br /> Safety and Health Communications may occur in <br />o Tailgate or safety training sessions <br />o Notices posted on safety bulletin boards in each office of the <br />department <br />1.5.3 Communication from employees <br />
