GeosMte&
consultants
Duplicate, equipment blank, and trip blank samples will be labeled in the field using a
"D" for duplicate samples, "EB" for equipment blank samples, and "TB" for trip blank
samples followed by the date collected in a YYYYMMDD (Year, Month, Day) format
then followed by a two-digit number designating sequence the duplicate or blank was
taken. Sample tracking sheets will be utilized to correlate field duplicate sample to the
corresponding primary samples. An example of the nomenclature for duplicate,
equipment blank, and trip blank samples are as follows:
Example (Duplicate):
• The first duplicate groundwater sample collected at a specific location on a given
sampling day (using 15 September 2025)would be: D20250915-01.
• A second duplicate groundwater sample collected at a different location on the
same day would be: D20250915-02
Example (equipment blank):
• The first equipment blank sample collected on a given sampling day (using
15 September 2025) would be: EB20250915-01.
Example (Trip Blank):
• The first trip blank sample collected on a given sample day (using
15 September 2025) would be TB20250915-01.
3.2 Sample Packaging and Handling
As samples are collected in the field, they will be handled and placed into containers as
specified by the laboratory. Each sample label will specify the analyses to be completed
for that particular container(i.e. containers to be analyzed for volatile organic compounds
[VOCs] by U. S. EPA Method 8260B,will be labeled as such, etc.). A list of appropriate
analyses for each sample will be included on a completed sample chain of custody form
for each respective laboratory. The chain of custody will include the sample
identification, location, date and time of the sampling, number and type of containers,
preservation when appropriate, and a list of analyses to be performed. Sample
documentation will be completed in the field, and the chain of custody will accompany
the samples through the transportation and analysis. Samples will be packed in ice chests
containing sealed blue ice or wet ice contained in plastic bags. Special care will be taken
to pack containers to minimize breakage.
Quality Assurance Project Plan 6 30 April 2025
