Neat Cement
Materials: a) Potable Water
b) Type I or II Portland Cement
Mixture: 5.2 to 5.8 gallons of water to every 94-pounds of cement
1.13 Well Sealing
Procedure
1. A tremie pipe shall be installed in the well to 10 feet above the measured bottom of
the well.
2. Slurry (as defined in Section 1.12) shall be pumped with a cement pump into the
casing through the tremie pipe to bring the slurry up to a depth of approximately 5-
feet below ground surface. The bottom of the tremie pipe shall remain submerged
in the slurry throughout the sealing process. The seal shall be placed in one
continuous lift. until all the calculated volume of slurry has been pumped.
3. A hole shall be excavated around the well casing to a depth of 5 feet below the
ground surface and the well casing and existing cement annular seal removed to the
bottom of this excavation. The slurry shall be allowed to spill over the top of the
casing into the excavation to form a mushroom cap. After the sealing material has
cured, the excavation shall be filled to the level of the surrounding grade with clean
imported fill compacted in 1-foot lifts. The top 5 feet of the casing and slurry shall
become the property of the Contractor.
It is estimated that the abandonment of the well structure will require 50 cubic yards of sealing
material. Additional sealing material, if required to complete abandonment of well structure
according to specifications, shall be billed on a per cubic yard basis as verified by the Owner's
representative.
Payment for Item No. 6, "Sealing Material" shall be at the contract lump sum prices as set forth
in the proposal assuming a total required sealing material volume of 50 cubic yards, and shall
include all labor, materials, tools, equipment, and all work necessary for the completion of
these items.
Payment for Item No. 7, "Extra Sealing Material" shall be at the contract unit prices per yard as
set forth in the proposal and shall include all labor, materials, tools, equipment, and all work
necessary for the completion of these items.
1.14 CAPPING OF PIPING
Any discharge lines (raw water, overboard, sewer laterals) or any other piping originating from
within the well structure shall be exposed to a depth of 2 feet below ground surface, capped
with an appropriate water tight cap, and covered with fill material finished to match
surrounding grade.
