5.0 TOOLS, EQUIPMENT AND VEHICLES <br /> It is the policy of FREY to use tools, equipment and vehicles, that are in a condition that does not <br /> pose a hazard to the employee or the environment. This sections outlines basic condition and <br /> controls for all tools and equipment utilized. Listed below are the required conditions and <br /> inspection guidelines. <br /> 5.1 Condition of Tools, Equipment and Vehicles <br /> All electric, air, hand tools, equipment and vehicles are to be maintained at a level consistent with <br /> the hazards to be encountered on the job Site.All tools and equipment will have appropriate guards <br /> and safeties. Hand tools are not to be repaired utilizing tape, wire, glue or any other method to <br /> compensate for a proper repair. If there is any doubt, replace the tool. Air compressor hoses will <br /> be safety wired. Electrical cords, guards, and safeties will be in proper working order or the tool/ <br /> equipment will not be used. <br /> 5.2 Inspection Reports <br /> Inspection of all tools / equipment and vehicles will be performed on a regular basis. A tool / <br /> equipment check list form is to be completed daily, by the Project Foreman, prior to starting any <br /> work. <br /> 6.0 PERSONAL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT <br /> This section provides an outline of the personnel protective equipment (PPE) and guidelines that <br /> will be implemented to minimize chemical, and physical exposures and accidents during activities <br /> at the Site. Where engineering controls and job hazard analyses do not eliminate all job hazards, <br /> employees will(where appropriate)wear PPE. <br /> These include items such as,hard hats,safety glasses/goggles,hearing protection,foot guards,gloves <br /> etc. The project manager under the direction of the FREY Health and Safety Manager will ensure <br /> that equipment selected will meet the following requirements: <br /> • It will be appropriate for the particular hazard. <br /> • It will be maintained in good condition. <br /> • It will be properly stored when not in use,to prevent damage or loss. <br /> • It will be kept clean, fully functional and sanitary. <br /> Protective clothing and PPE can present additional safety hazards. Supervisors will ensure workers <br /> wear appropriate clothing and PPE. These items will be worn so as not to create additional hazards. <br /> All PPE will be selected in accordance with 29 CFR 1910.132. FREY will provide proper PPE to <br /> all employees. All protective clothing will be properly used, stored, selected, and maintained. <br /> FREY Page 9 <br />
