These
pilot tests indicated that both SVE and GWE could effectively remove petroleum hydrocarbons
from the Site. In 2001, GeoHydrologic Consultants (GeoHydrologic) installed and started a dual
phase extraction (DPE) system, consisting of both SVE and GWE. As of March 2009, the DPE
system had removed a total of 210,156 pounds of vapor-phase hydrocarbons and 582,804
gallons of petroleum impacted groundwater. In March 2009,GeoHydrologic shut down the DPE
system to conduct repairs, and the DPE system ultimately remained off.
In 2010 Stantec Consulting Corporation (Stantec) removed the DPE system and cut associated
piping to allow for Site redevelopment. Currently, the Site has no remedial system installed or in
operation. In 2014, ATC performed an SVE and air-sparge (AS) pilot test, which indicated that
in conjunction with AS, SVE remains a viable remedial option at the Site.
In the RAP, ATC proposes SVE/AS remediation to remove petroleum hydrocarbons in three (3)
areas: 1) the vicinity of MW-13 and MW-14, 2) the vicinity of MW-22, and 3) the vicinity of MW-3
and MW-15. ATC proposes to use existing SVE wells SVE-1 through SVE-3 and existing AS
well ASA and to install additional AS wells AS-2 through AS-7. ATC proposes installing the
SVE and AS systems in an existing remedial compound located at the north end of the current
Site building. Table 1 below presents existing and proposed monitoring and remedial well
construction details, and December 2016 (most recent) groundwater data.
KARL E.
