Safety <br /> 5-08.4.2 Responsibility of Project Manager and Site Health <br /> and Safety Manager and the Safety Team <br /> • Ensuring employees (including new hires) receive appropriate and current <br /> training. <br /> • Being aware of tasks requiring the use of respiratory protection. <br /> • Implementing this Section at each job site. <br /> • Coordinating with the VP of Health and Safety on how to address heat stress <br /> hazards or other concerns regarding this program. <br /> • Evaluating work location conditions where heat stress concerns may exist. <br /> • Planning and scheduling work appropriately to minimize heat stress concerns. <br /> • Providing adequate fluids and work-rest cycles to prevent heat stress. <br /> 5-08.4.3 Responsibility of Employees <br /> Adhering to the program as specified in this Health and Safety Manual. <br /> 5-08.5 Heat Stress Prevention and Control <br /> A work schedule should be established so that most of the workday will be during <br /> the morning hours before ambient air temperature reaches its highest level. <br /> A site-specific work/rest schedule will be implemented for personnel who are <br /> required to wear impermeable chemical protective clothing as provided in Section <br /> 5.8.6.5: Control Measures, Level D PPE; non-HazWOPER field work; Construction <br /> Materials Testing; or short-duration (less than 1 day), non-chemical exposure <br /> projects. The Site-Specific Heat Illness Prevention Plan is attached hereto, and <br /> incorporated herein as Appendix A. <br /> At a minimum, a project/site-specific program shall consist of: <br /> • Medical supervision of workers, including pre-placement physicals that evaluate <br /> fitness, weight, the cardiovascular system, and other conditions that might affect <br /> worker's susceptibility to heat stress. <br /> • Medical evaluation during and after heat illnesses and a medical release for <br /> returning to work. <br /> • Employee orientation and training on heat stress, heat-induced illnesses and <br /> their symptoms, water and salt replacement, proper clothing, work practices and <br /> emergency first aid procedures. <br /> • Work-rest regimens, with cooled/shaded rest areas and enforced rest breaks. <br /> • Scheduled drink breaks for recommended fluids. <br /> • Environmental monitoring to determine effective temperatures and humidity and <br /> adjust work-rest schedules accordingly. <br /> Page 2 of 9 Copyright 2019 Kleinfelder, Inc <br /> Important: When modifying this document, update properties with <br /> your name, date, and nature of changes made. <br />
